With the election looming, Baldwin City will be a hotbed of political activity this week. “There’s a lot of stuff going on,” said Ivan Huntoon, president of the Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce that is sponsoring two of three political events this week.

Baldwin High School sports fans won’t have to travel too far to watch their respective teams’ postseason action. The Kansas State High School Athletics Association announced the Class 4A regional sites last week for the fall season.

Colin Thomas and several other Baldwin High School students are honoring veterans at the Oct. 17 football game as a way to make up for last year’s Veteran’s Day fiasco at BHS.

Mike Grossner’s back was eased Saturday afternoon. His infamous “monkey” disappeared at Liston Stadium. During the first four years of his regime, Grossner was winless against Graceland University. That all ended over the weekend.
BHS girls shine over 6A schools at home meet

Saturday was a sweet homecoming for the Baldwin High School cross country teams. After competing against top Kansas and Missouri schools the previous weekend at the Rim Rock Classic, the Bulldogs returned home for a much-smaller meet.
Bulldogs crush Ottawa 35-7

It might not have been quite what Mike Berg was hoping for, but he’ll take a win any chance he can get one. Berg’s Baldwin High School football team (4-1) overcame four turnovers to defeat a struggling Ottawa team (0-5) 35-7 Friday night.

Defense holds strong for 80 minutes; BHS loses 1-0 in OT

For 80 minutes, Matt McCune was pleased with his team’s performance against a tough, class 5A opponent in Ottawa. It was those next four minutes — in overtime — that one miscue doomed the Baldwin High School soccer team. The Bulldogs fell to the Cyclones 1-0 in the extra period Tuesday afternoon.

Motivation won’t be a factor Friday night. Baldwin High School football fans are all too familiar with the Bulldogs’ next opponent. Their next challenger swept the Bulldogs a year ago and even broke many fans’ and players’ hearts in late November.
Eyeing the district’s future

Planning for the future and being proactive are two goals of the Baldwin School Board. On Monday night, the school board took a step toward reaching those goals with a two-hour strategic planning session.
