- With the election looming, Baldwin City will be a hotbed of political activity this week.
“There’s a lot of stuff going on,” said Ivan Huntoon, president of the Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce that is sponsoring two of three political events this week.

- With the blues drifting through the building and the barbecue being savored, the annual fundraiser for the Lumberyard Arts Center was again a success Saturday night.

- Mike Grossner’s back was eased Saturday afternoon.
His infamous “monkey” disappeared at Liston Stadium. During the first four years of his regime, Grossner was winless against Graceland University.
That all ended over the weekend.

- Saturday was a sweet homecoming for the Baldwin High School cross country teams.
After competing against top Kansas and Missouri schools the previous weekend at the Rim Rock Classic, the Bulldogs returned home for a much-smaller meet.

- It might not have been quite what Mike Berg was hoping for, but he’ll take a win any chance he can get one.
Berg’s Baldwin High School football team (4-1) overcame four turnovers to defeat a struggling Ottawa team (0-5) 35-7 Friday night.

- Without much on the agenda for Monday night’s Baldwin City Council meeting Dave Hill’s quarterly report and a plea to the council were the biggest items.

- For 80 minutes, Matt McCune was pleased with his team’s performance against a tough, class 5A opponent in Ottawa.
It was those next four minutes — in overtime — that one miscue doomed the Baldwin High School soccer team. The Bulldogs fell to the Cyclones 1-0 in the extra period Tuesday afternoon.

- Motivation won’t be a factor Friday night.
Baldwin High School football fans are all too familiar with the Bulldogs’ next opponent. Their next challenger swept the Bulldogs a year ago and even broke many fans’ and players’ hearts in late November.
