- In many ways, it’s a typical morning for any Baker University student.
Greg Rogers has no classes on Thursdays, but he’s still out the door of his Zeta Chi fraternity house at 9:30 a.m. He’s off to a morning piano lesson, a chapel service and a lunch with friends after the service.
For Rogers, a senior who will graduate in December, it’s just another typical day.

Dietitians recommend a daily calorie intake of about 2,000 calories but on one Thursday in late November, many Americans disregard that rule.

- Santa Claus is coming to town.
He’ll be in Baldwin City on Saturday evening to light the community Christmas Tree downtown.
Santa will conclude the annual Light Parade as he arrives downtown on an antique fire engine. He will choose a child to help him flip the switch, which has become an annual tradition in Baldwin City.

- Both Baldwin Junior High School varsity girls’ basketball teams are having successful starts to their seasons.
On Monday, both squads faced off against Paola, but split the results.

- It only took Matt Germain 34 seconds to lift his Baker University men’s soccer team to victory Saturday.
Of course, that was after the Wildcats dueled Park University for 90 minutes of scoreless soccer at Liston Stadium. Less than a minute into the overtime period, the Baker junior booted the winning goal.

- Thanks to 24 warmly dressed Baldwin City volunteers, a neighborhood of children will soon be able to enjoy swings and slides just a block or two from their homes.
At 8 a.m. Saturday, the group of community volunteers began working on constructing a new playground. Eight hours later, the FireTree Estates subdivision was the recipient of a community gift.

- SIOUX CITY, IOWA — A solid offensive performance by Baker University wasn’t enough against the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ top scoring team here Saturday.
Baker’s 373 yards weren’t enough to keep up with Morningside College’s 565 yards from scrimmage. Throw in an interception and a blocked punt and the Mustangs routed the Wildcats 65-27.

- I found out what heaven is like — four guys decked out in Kansas City Royals gear at Wrigley Field.
Heading into the holidays, that’s what I’m most thankful about this year. It turned into the best Father’s Day I’ve ever had.
