BHS tennis seasons wraps up
May 15, 2008
The Baldwin High School boys' tennis season came to an end at the Class 4A regional tennis tournament recently.
BHS hosted the tournament and came within one match on the singles' and doubles' side of sending Bulldogs to the 4A sub-state tournament. The top four from each tournament advanced to the sub-state round and the top four there qualified for the state tournament.
The top BHS singles player was sophomore Levi Moore. In the first round, he beat Spring Hill's Josh Smith 6-2, 6-2. However, Moore lost to the No. 1-seeded player in the next round, 6-1, 6-0.
On the doubles' side, sophomore Camdon Schwartz and freshman McKinley Dick teamed together. They had a bye the first round, but lost in the quarterfinals 6-1, 6-2.
The other doubles' team was comprised of freshmen Tim Larson and John Robbs. The other BHS singles' player was freshman Brandon Baltzell.
BHS coach Justin Hoffman knows his team will be a year older and more experienced next spring as this year's team consisted of only freshmen and sophomores.
"This team is very young and inexperienced," Hoffman said. "Of the 18 players, only three had experience at the high school level."
