Fourth of July plans set
June 26, 2008
Fourth of July festivities are just around the corner for Baldwin City.
The annual fireworks display at the ball fields near Baldwin High School are the main event, as usual, but there's more.
"The evening festivities will begin at 7 p.m. with the fireworks display at dark," said Sheri Caldwell, who heads up the community fireworks display effort. "The concession stand will be open and the play equipment will be there for the children. Donations are taken at the gates."
There's a change in the main event.
"We have a great new fireworks display apparatus this year," said Caldwell.
The day's fun begins at the Baldwin City Municipal Pool. There will be a free lap swim from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.. The open swim starts at noon and goes until 4 p.m. Activities will include a DJ providing music, free hot dogs, games and races for children, a diving board ball toss, relay races, change pick up, greased watermelon and adult races and competitions.
All of the pool fun is free of charge. The Signal will detail more about the celebration in next week's issue.
