- What began with a simple load of firewood will soon end an exquisite career in June … 14 years later.
It’s a calling that began at Baker University nearly 26 years ago. During the last 14, it’s been a career filled with numerous national awards, new athletic facilities and a hall of fame induction.

- Snow and frigid temperatures aren’t common on the eastern coast of Australia.
While most locals were bundled up and keeping warm inside their houses, Jane Waugh was enjoying her summer vacation. She spent two weeks in snowy Baldwin City, instead of on the beach near her hometown of Brisbane, Australia.

- On Dec. 13, the Baldwin Junior High School girls’ basketball season ended with an exciting victory.
It was the eighth grade varsity squad that finished its nearly unblemished season with a win.

- Both Baldwin High School basketball squads will be hosting alumni scrimmages during the Christmas break.

- Despite only entering eight competitors, the Baldwin High School wrestling team held its own at the Harrisonville (Mo.) Holiday Tournament last weekend.
The Bulldogs finished 15th out of 18 teams at the two-day event. BHS was the only school from Kansas at the competitive tournament.

- Yes, I was one of those 40,000 or so idiots in the Arrowhead icebox Sunday. So were my sons. The acorn truly doesn’t fall far from the tree.
They were born and raised Kansas City fans, both the Chiefs and the Royals. Now in their mid-20s, they hold true to those teams despite their lack of recent success.

- Tracie Weege drained a trio of three-pointers in the second half, where she scored 15 of the Bulldogs’ 21 final points.
The Baldwin High School senior finished the game with 17 points to lead the Bulldogs to a victory Friday.

There’s new meaning to the classic holiday song “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” for the Skaggs family. After 17 months in Africa, Anna Skaggs is.
“Yeah, that song and “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas,” said Skaggs, who has been stationed in Benin, West Africa, in the Peace Corps. “I haven’t seen it (snow) for two years.”

- It’s semi-smooth sailing on Sixth Street again, but watch out for those U-turns in downtown Baldwin City.
Crews took down the “road closed” signs on Sixth Street Friday and traffic is once again flowing down it south of High Street.

- Baldwin High School’s boys’ basketball team outscored Central Heights 18-2 in the third quarter Friday.
It isn’t exactly what coach Eric Toot would prefer to see from his squad, but it was enough to boost the Bulldogs to a 52-31 victory.
