District ball fields likely back to BESIC site

It turns out last week’s curveball thrown at the new ball field complex might have been a fastball. Just a few days after the Baldwin School Board was updated on the availability of the Ralph Ruhlen property north of Baldwin High School, it now seems that land won’t be large enough. The DLR Group architects informed the bond issue’s steering committee of the change in plans last Thursday.
Good news for district’s bond plans

Despite a tough economic market, John McArthur was able to get the Baldwin School District’s first portion of bonds off on the right foot. McArthur, district financial advisor, sold $10 million of the $22.9 million bond issue at a 5 percent interest rate. He also had better luck selling the bonds than Baldwin’s neighbor, Eudora, had on its attempt to sell a portion of its $45 million bond issue that passed in November 2007.
BHS girls squeeze out victory over Eagles

WELLSVILLE — Late free throws woes here Tuesday nearly cost the Baldwin High School girls’ basketball team its first road victory. Despite missing five of their final six attempts from the charity stripe, the Bulldogs squeezed out a victory over the Eagles, 44-41.
Erica Ogle overcomes mental obstacle

Sometimes it’s not always how one finishes, but instead what one learned during that process. During her four-and-a-half years of running at Pittsburg State University, Erica Ogle was all-conference several times. She also qualified for nationals twice in track.
City council approves water-rate increase

Action at Monday night’s Baldwin City Council paved the way for the city to take over two cemeteries and raise water rates. But the water issue didn’t go down without one last tussle.

Bulldogs rebound to win first road contest

WELLSVILLE — A 12-0 third-quarter run was all of the separation the Baldwin High School boys’ basketball team needed here Tuesday. That spurt was enough cushion for the Bulldogs, who won their first road game of the season. The Bulldogs (3-1) beat the Wellsville Eagles 48-35 after playing their first three contests at home last week.
High school baseball showcase coming
