- Track has been a part of Mike and Angie Spielman’s lives for decades.
Both were decorated high school runners in Kansas and went on to have success as collegiate competitors at the University of Kansas.
Now, they are both coaches in the Baldwin School District.

- Baldwin City’s mill levy will go down - ever so slightly - for next year, but even with that good news, all city council members didn’t end up supporting the budget at Monday’s meeting.

- Sunday ended another successful year for Baldwin City area youths at the annual Douglas County Fair here.
Once again, the local 4-H groups brought home numerous ribbons and honors.

- Nine-year-old Grace Baxter had the beginnings of a knot in her stomach when she paraded her grand champion market steer, Chico, in the sale ring of the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds’ Community Building.

- A steady stream of parents and students flowed through all six Baldwin School District buildings on Friday and after some quick calculations, it seems the district enrollment numbers might be up this year.

- Brian L. Pitts, a 35-year-old Baldwin City man, was in Douglas County Court Monday as a result of an early Saturday morning shooting in Baldwin City. He was charged with aggravated battery and his bond was reduced to $75,000 from $500,000.

- Mike Berg nearly caused a slight controversy on the final day of his Baldwin High School football camp.
His involvement and a couple of his officiating calls had some of the senior Bulldogs nervous about losing their final hog ball championship.

- With the dog days of summer in full swing, the 101st annual Vinland Fair is fast approaching. The festivities begin Thursday morning and end Saturday evening, although one event will be Sunday at dawn.
