HAROLD J. PAYNE
Memorial services for Harold J. "Bud" Payne, 84, Baldwin City, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ives Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Payne died Sept. 9, 2007, in Baldwin City.
He was born March 18, 1923, at Elwood, Ind., the son of Cecil Payne and Frances Boskey Payne Jensen. He attended schools in Chicago. He served in the Army/Air Corps during World War II, stationed in Italy with the 344th Bomb Squad. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He lived in Salt Lake City for 13 years where he worked for the U.S. Post Office. He moved to San Francisco in 1960.
He married Janet Stouppe Payne in Sept. 1961, at San Leandro, Calif. She survives. They lived in the Bay Area for 10 years before moving to Quakertown, Pa., where he worked for American Fast Foods.
Mr. Payne came to Baldwin City as Food Service/Student Union Director with Baker University in 1973 where he served for nine years. He then managed Orchard Lane Apartments for seven years. He was a member and served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Center of Spiritual Living Church, Kansas City, Mo.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas Oviatt, Lebanon, Mo.; Michael E. Payne, Bad Neustadt, Germany; Matthew C. Payne, St. Charles, Mo; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
His parents and a sister, Rosella Payne, died earlier.
