Baker University cross country
Baker's cross country teams opened on Saturday at the Maple Leaf Invitational at the Baldwin City Golf Course.
The Wildcat women placed fourth out of nine teams and the men finished fifth out of eight.
Mary Loveland, a freshman from Wichita, led Baker's women. She placed 15th in 12:44. Freshman Chelsea Twietmeyer was Baker's second runner, placing 24th in 13:03. Amber Keith, the Wildcats' top returner, came in 27th overall. Ari Penner (30th) and Katie James (39th) also contributed to the team score of 134 points.
In the men's 5-kilometer race, freshman Chris Scheiderman led the Wildcats. He placed 16th in 17:03. Freshman Nick Wagoner was Baker's No. 2 runner, finishing in 21st place in 17:24. AJ Jimenez (29th), Andrew McGregor (32nd) and Justin Hill (33rd) also figured in Baker's team total of 124 points.
Baker is scheduled to run Friday at the Mule Night Invitational in Warrensburg, Mo.
