MARY ELIZABETH PLANK

A Memorial Service of Remembrance for Mary Elizabeth Plank, 86, Baldwin City, was Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City. Private family inurnment services were at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City. Mrs. Plank died Oct. 17, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 13, 1921, at Archie, Mo., the daughter of Chester A. and Maude (Hodges) Mawson. She graduated from Archie High School in 1938 and from Central Missouri State Teachers College, Warrensburg, Mo., in 1942.

She married Fred B. Plank June 6, 1945, at Olathe. He survives of the home. She taught high school in Garden City, Mo. They moved to Baldwin City in 1945. She taught school in Baldwin City, retiring in 1987 after teaching 37 years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City; United Methodist Women; KNEA; BEA; American Legion Auxiliary Unit 228; Department President 1956-1957; Order of the Eastern Star; 40/8; Past Matrons; Hestia Study Club; Delta Kappa Gamma; Girls State; Kansas Library Board and was inducted into the Teachers Hall of Fame.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Tom Plank, Baldwin City; a daughter, Susan Case, Lawrence; six sisters, Edna Buthe, Mountain View, Calif., Esther Hess, Harrisonville, Mo, Phyllis Brafman, Hilton Head, S.C., Sherma Erholm, Arvada, Colo., Marlene Mawson, Bloomington, Ill., and Darlene Helman, Independence, Mo.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Her parents died earlier.
