Arrest made at BHS

October 25, 2007

Baldwin City police aren't releasing many of the details from the arrest Thursday morning of a student at Baldwin High School.

Police Chief Mike McKenna said Wednesday that there wasn't much new to report regarding the incident that occurred around 11 a.m. Thursday.

"No, not really," said McKenna. "An 18-year-old student will be charged with battery, disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice. She will go through municipal court like anyone else.

"That's about all I can say about it until it goes through court," he said. "It's unfortunate, but sometimes people don't make good decisions."

McKenna did say that school officials first tried to handle the situation, but they eventually contacted School Resource Officer Kim Springer.

"She was asked to control the situation and she did a good job," he said.

The student was first taken to Douglas County Jail, but was later released.

School District Supt. Paul Dorathy, the spokesman for the district, was unavailable for comment.
