New locale for Kids Zone is in front of library
Although the Kids Zone and petting zoo have moved to a new location this year, the same great entertainment will still be there, along with a couple of new visitors.
Both kids' entertainment areas have moved south of High Street and will be located in front of the Baldwin City Public Library, located at Seventh and High streets.
The previous location is now being used for handicapped parking. Annie France, Maple Leaf Festival committee member, is excited about the new location.
"We love the new location," France said. "We have more space and more visibility being close to High Street. We're glad that the old space is going to be used to increase our handicapped parking."
The location isn't the only new thing this year. Priscilla Howe, a storyteller, and the Mad Science group from Kansas City will be at the Kids Zone during the weekend.
Mad Science is the world's leading science enrichment provider. It delivers unique, hands-on science experiences for children that are as entertaining as they are educational.
"We're growing the space and what we offer children each year," France said. "It's getting bigger and better with more educational booths and entertainment."
The usual attractions will be there this year as well. Those include the petting zoo, inflatable slide, face painting and fall crafts. All activities are free.
France said the Kids Zone can be a nice place for parents to rest while their children enjoy the festival.
"We're usually swamped," France said. "The beautiful weather, space for parents to relax and kids to enjoy the weather all make it a fun place."
