Concert pianist to
perform at Baker
The Baker University Artist and Lecture Series will feature concert pianist Andreas Klein at 7:30 p.m. today in McKibbin Recital Hall.
Klein has performed internationally and was featured artist in the PBS production "Intermezzo with Andreas Klein." Ticket prices are $20 adults and $15 youth. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Friends of the Library
to have Book TALK
Friends of the Baldwin City Library will have its second in the series "Women Around the World" Book TALK sessions at 7 p.m. Oct. 11.
They will discuss "The Country Girls" by Edna O'Brien from Ireland. Discussion leader is Sister Mary Lenore Martin from the University of St. Mary. Books may be checked out at the library.
The last session will be Nov. 8 and the discussion will be about "So Long a Letter" by Mariama Ba from Senegal. The event is sponsored by Friends of the Baldwin City Library and Kansas Humanities Council.

Legion to host meeting
on VA benefits
American Legion Post No. 228 will host a meeting for all veterans and their families who wish to learn more about their earned VA benefits at 8 a.m. Oct. 6 at the Legion Hall in Baldwin City.
The American Legion assists veterans and their dependents in filing for benefits through service in the Armed Forces.

USO show presented
at dinner/theater
A fundraiser for Pleasant Valley School will begin at 6 p.m. with a dinner Saturday at the school, 3903 Thomas Rd.

Missionary to speak
at Lighthouse church
Missionary Josh Wessley will speak at Lighthouse Baptist Church during morning worship Sunday. Community members are welcome to attend.

RWD No. 4 to
meet Tuesday
Rural Water District No. 4, Douglas County, will have its regular meeting beginning at 7 p.m., Tuesday, in the conference room of the district office.

Ives Chapel UMW
Evening Circle to meet
The Ives Chapel Evening Circle will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Fellowship Hall.
Jeanette Kalb is hostess. Cathy Gilges will lead devotions. Shirley Wagner is program leader.

Lions Club to
have meeting
The Lions Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Vintage Park Center.

Grief support group
schedules meeting
A grief support group for women will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at Vintage Park Center. The group meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Community women are welcome to attend.

Youth participate in
livestock show
Area youth who participated in the Kansas Junior Livestock Show were MacKenzie Flory, Baldwin City, 1st in class 6 -- Angus Breeding Heifer, 4th in class 1 -- Angus Market Steer and 6th in class 5, Angus Breeding Heifer; Taylor Stanley, Baldwin City, 17th in class 9 -- Suffolk Market Lamb, 2nd in class 13 -- Crossbred Market Lamb, Reserve Grand Champion Meat Goat; Gunther Wehrman, Baldwin City -- 10th in class 2 -- Duroc Market Barrow.
Youth from 86 counties entered 1,616 animals in the 75th Kansas Junior Livestock Show that was held in Wichita.

Wednesday services
include light supper
A light supper will be available before Wednesday night services at Light House Baptist Temple. Community members are welcome to attend.
