BBB alerts about
two scams
A Topeka securities company was the target of a false Better Business Bureau complaint received by e-mail. The BBB warns businesses that any e-mail stating that the Better Business Bureau received a complaint about that business and asking for business information is a scam. All BBB complaints are sent through the mail. Do not open e-mail attachments and notify the BBB at (785) 232-0454.
Kansas consumers should be diligent in answering work from home ads on the Internet. A Topeka woman reported that she replied to a mystery shopper ad and found herself in a $2,700 scam working out of Ontario, Canada. She received a check from the company and was instructed to send a fee after depositing the check. If she had followed instructions she would have lost the fee and would have given the scam artists her bank account numbers. The BBB warns that you must check each company before becoming involved. Go the www.bbb.org or call (785) 232-0454.
