Veterans to gather
for annual dinner
The annual Veterans Day potluck will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion Hall, 803 High St. All Veterans and their families are invited to attend. The dinner is sponsored by Lloyd Beaton Post 228 and Auxiliary.

RWD No. 4 to
meet Tuesday
Rural Water District No. 4, Douglas County, will have its regular meeting beginning at 7 p.m., Tuesday, in the conference room of the district office.

Clearfield -- Ives youth
schedule meeting
The Clearfield - Ives Chapel United Methodist Youth group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Clearfield UM Church. Youth 6th through 12th grades are invited.

FCE to gather
for meeting
The Vinland Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the home of Paula Johnson. Mariann Bradley will present the lesson, "What do you pack when you pursue a dream ... and what do you leave behind?"

have meeting
The Lions Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Vintage Park Center.

Circle to have meeting
Ives Chapel Evening Circle will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Cathy Gilges is hostess. Jeanette Kalb is devotion leader. Alice Gurley will lead the program. World Thank Offering will be taken.

Veterans Day Luncheon
The Annual Baldwin Elementary School Intermediate Center Veterans Day luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Friday at the school. Students and staff look forward to this very special day. All area veterans are encouraged to attend.

annual holiday show

Vinland school hosts
Grandparents' lunch
Vinland Elementary School will have its Grandparents' Luncheon at noon, Nov. 20. Students can invite grandparents, family members or a special guest to share a Thanksgiving meal. The Scholastic Book Fair will be available prior to and following the lunch.

Items needed for
hospitalized veterans
The American Legion Auxiliary is collecting Christmas items for Veterans at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Memorial Medical Center at Leavenworth. Some of the items needed are personal grooming items, popcorn, crossword puzzle books, note cards, packets of hot beverages and candy. Sweat clothes, size extra large and larger, children's educational toys and money for postage are welcome. All kinds of homemade cookies are needed. Items can be left with Archer Carlson, 118 7th St., by Nov. 10.

Senior Center offers
Info on Medicare
The Douglas County Senior Center will be holding enrollment sessions for Medicare Part D with counselors available to assist seniors and their caregivers with the enrollment process. Bring your Medicare card and a list of prescriptions to the session. Sessions are scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 745 Vermont St. on Nov. 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, Dec. 3, 4, 5. Counselors will also be in Baldwin City Nov. 29 at Signal Ridge Villas from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and in Eudora Nov. 30 at the Eudora Public Library from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. All sessions are first come, first served. The reasons that attending a session is critical to Douglas County residents are: 1) a nationwide analysis published in October, 2007, suggests that consumers who stay in their current prescription drug plans will see an average of 21% increase in their monthly premiums in 2008; 2) one 2007 plan, that had the second highest enrollment will raise its premium 69%; 3) consumers who shop around for a new plan maybe able to find lower cost alternatives; 4) the selection plan will offer 52 plans for 2008 to choose from.

Parents as Teachers
celebrates 19th year
The Baldwin Parents as Teachers program will join more than 3,000 programs offering Parents as Teachers' services celebrating National Parents as Teachers Day today. Families who enroll in this free program receive personal visits with certified parent educators, have opportunities to attend group meetings with other parents, can participate in organized play groups with other children, receive regular child screenings for vision, hearing and overall development, receive monthly newsletters and a connection with community services. Worden church
announces events
During worship service at Worden United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, the Sound Advice Quartet will perform. Community members are welcome to attend.
KFC Kids will meet from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Kids third through fifth grades are welcome.
Junior and senior high school youth will have a volleyball tournament after the Bishop's Round Up Pack and Pray Sunday that begins at noon.
