Lyle Windon North

Funeral services for Lyle Windon North, 84, Baldwin City, will be at 11 a.m. today at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Baldwin City. Mr. North died Oct. 28, 2007, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born July 18, 1923, in rural Franklin County, the son of Frank Lyle and Daisy Vivian (Jones) North. He graduated from Appanoose High School in 1941.

He joined the U.S. Army during World War II on Feb. 1, 1943, as clerk typist, earning the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged March 20, 1946. He joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict on Sept. 7, 1951, at Sewart Air Force Base in Tennessee, earning the rank of Technical Sergeant in the 810th Air Police Squadron. He was honorably discharged Sept. 28, 1954, at Biggs Air Force Base, Texas.

He married Ruby Lilloween Grider June 19, 1952, at Ottawa. He worked in Ottawa for Pepsi Cola and Joel Cutting Wholesale from 1955 to 1961. The family moved to Baldwin City and he worked for Farmland Industries Fertilizer Plant in Lawrence for 24 years, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Sheila A. Rugan, Ellinwood; a son, Eric A., Topeka; two brothers, Harry, Baldwin City, and Dean, Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Margaret Burke, San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

His parents died earlier.

Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, Midland Hospice Care or Baldwin Healthcare Center and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
