Baker grads to unfold Sunday

More than 700 undergraduate, graduate and nursing students at Baker University will receive degrees during two separate ceremonies on Sunday at the Collins Center.

The commencement ceremony for the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education undergraduates and School of Nursing will be at 1 p.m. The School of Professional and Graduate Studies students and the School of Education graduate students will be honored at 4:30 p.m. A reception for all students will be at 2:30 p.m. at Harter Union.

Curt Eddy, a 1969 Baker graduate, will be the keynote speaker at the 1 p.m. ceremony. Eddy is Senior Vice President of Sales for Hollywood Records in Burbank, Calif., where he is responsible for all sales efforts on behalf of Hollywood Records and Lyric Street Records, based in Nashville, Tenn. Before joining the Walt Disney-owned record label, Eddy served as Senior Vice President of Sales for Universal Music and Video Distribution and Senior Vice President of Field Marketing for PolyGram Group Distribution. An active member of Kappa Sigma fraternity at Baker, Eddy received a speech communication degree in 1969 and a teacher's certificate in 1974. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1973. Eddy is a member of the University's Board of Trustees in the fall.

David Adkins, Vice Chancellor for External Affairs at the Kansas University Medical Center, will speak at the 4:30 p.m. ceremony. Adkins oversees alumni and community relations, the staff of KU Med magazine, health and technology outreach, and continuing education at the Med Center. He also works closely with other KU staff in the areas of government relations and university marketing. Adkins has a bachelor's degree and juris doctorate from the University of Kansas. He served in the Kansas Senate from 2000 to 2005 after four terms as a Kansas state representative.

Sunday's festivities will mark the first spring graduation ceremony for Baker President Patricia Long.
