Patron’s primary problem

Ongoing problems at the Baldwin Elementary School Primary Center have begun to frustrate Joanne Kite, a parent and substitute teacher at the building. Kite, the BESPC representative for the Parent Teacher Organization, has attended several school board meetings to express her concerns about the primary center. She went to Monday’s meeting and once again wanted the board to know the problems need to be addressed. “I want the primary center to stay on their mind,” Kite said Tuesday. “We have so many issues that just haven’t been addressed. Some of the problems have been going on much longer than I’ve been going to the board.”
Toot proud of players’ work ethic

Winning 17 games and coming within two points of qualifying for state in his first year were great accolades for Baldwin High School boys’ basketball coach Eric Toot. But, those two things aren’t what the BHS coach is proud of during his inaugural season at the Bulldog helm.
Lack of leadership, size may hurt BHS girls next year

An early exit from the Class 4A sub-state didn’t take away the Baldwin High School girls’ basketball team’s season. The Bulldogs fell to Eudora in the semifinal round of sub-state March 2, ending a season in which they recorded a record of 16-6 and 8-4 in the Frontier League.
Bulldog trio earn all-league honors

Even with tougher qualifying standards and less people per team, Baldwin High School landed three basketball players on the All-Frontier League teams. Senior Kelsey Verhaeghe, senior Blake Wieden and junior Drew Berg were chosen for postseason honor this season.
Peers award Harris

Being honored by one’s peers is one of the greatest honors a coach can receive. After a successful season where he won his 100th dual as the Baldwin High School wrestling coach, Kit Harris was recently honored as the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association’s coach of the year.
Date looms for general election
March 15, 2007
April 3’s general election for Baldwin City Council and Baldwin School Board candidates will be here in no time. Voters and potential voters need to be aware of several upcoming dates. The most immediate date of note is for voters who aren’t registered. In order to vote April 3, voters must register by Monday. Registration can be done at City Hall or at the Douglas County Courthouse.
April ‘08 suggested for bond issue

Supt. Paul Dorathy updated the Baldwin School Board on the district’s financial situation, next year’s budget and a possible new timeline for a bond issue at Monday’s meeting. Dorathy and Kevin Greischer, architect with the DLR Group, have spoken several times recently about facilities and the upcoming bond issue. “We kind of talked about a tentative timeline for how we are going to get things done and accomplished,” Dorathy said.
