Signal wins 11 KPA awards
The Baldwin City Signal won a total of 11 awards in this year's Kansas Press Association Awards of Excellence competition, including four first-place finishes.
Signal editor/publisher Jeff Myrick won first in Headline Writing, News Photo and Editorial Pages. Signal contributor Gerard Arantowicz was first in Editorial Cartoon, his first top award after several years of entering.
Second-place awards went to Signal staff writer Jimmy Gillispie for Sports Pages and the Signal for Special Sections with the 150th Black Jack Battlefield tab. Gillispie's second-place finish was his best placing in two years.
Third-place awards went to Myrick in Investigative Story, Editorial Writing and Best Front Page; Gillispie in Sports Column Writing; and Arantowicz in Editorial Cartoon.
