John H. Hess

Graveside services for John H. Hess, 68, Lawrence, were Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence, with Masonic honors conducted by Lawrence Masonic Lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M. Mr. Hess died June 23, 2007, at his home.

He was born Sept. 14, 1938, at Lawrence, the son of Ralph, Sr., and Ruth (Souders) Hess. He was a member of IBEW Local Union No. 226, Topeka, and worked as an electrician at the Hercules Power Plant in De Soto. He was a member of Lawrence Masonic Lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M. He served in the United States Army for two years.

He married Marian Hess April 14, 1978, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his mother of Baldwin City; six children, Linda Goff, Jefferson County, Ruth Ann Vermillion, Wichita, Kenny Hess, Lawrence, Kelly Nelson, Eudora, Shelly Wise, McClouth, Scott Godfrey, Lawrence; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Hess, Jr., Baldwin City, and a sister, Darlene Hess, Lawrence.

His father, and a son John H. Hess, Jr., died earlier.
