Michael R. Niehues

A service of remembrance for Michael R. Hiehues, 49, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ, 203 Tenth St., Baldwin City. Mr. Niehues died July 9, 2007, in a vehicle accident in rural Douglas County.

He was born March 7, 1958, at Seneca, the son of Edwin F. and Rosalita (Rennenger) Niehues. He was raised at Goff. He graduated from Nemaha Valley High School in 1976.

He married Carol Krotzinger July 15, 1978.

Mr. Niehues managed a restaurant at Seneca. They moved to Sabetha where he worked for Mid American Dairymen for 17 years and had a lawn service. He preached at the Church of Christ in Sabetha and Hiawatha. In 1996, he worked as manager for Crosswind Foods in Sabetha. In 2003, he took a sales and marketing position with Advanced Foods in Lenexa. In 2006, the family moved to Baldwin City. In May of 2007, he went back to work for Crosswind Industries in Kansas City.

In 1990, he made his first of many trips overseas to South Africa and India to preach. In 2000, he was awarded a Millennium Memento of Honor and in 2002 he was awarded a Masters of Biblical Studies Degree from the National Bible College in India. He and a friend hosted the Bible Hour in India.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of the home; four children, Jake, Sabetha, Brian, Sioux City, Iowa, Hannah Dettwyler, Eudora, and Katherine Niehues, Baldwin City; his parents, Goff; seven siblings, Patty Bolgar, Valley City, Ohio, Leland Niehues and Dennis Niehues, both of Goff, Cindy Heideman, Wamego, David Niehues, Elgin, Ill., Leon Niehues, Huntsville, Ark., and Willie Niehues, Soldier; and four grandchildren.

Burial will be at Vinland Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Church of Christ, Baldwin City. Memorials may be made to Katherine Niehues Education Fund, Baldwin Church of Christ or India Missionary Work and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
