William Dean Gangel

Memorial services for William Dean Gangel, 51, Lawrence, were Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Mr. Gangel died Jan. 14, 2007.

He was born Jan. 18, 1955, at Topeka, the son of Leo L. and Acsa Isabel (Luthey) Gangel. He graduated from Southern Methodist University with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in guitar performance and had been working on his Ph.D. at North Texas University. He was head of the guitar program at Texas State University at San Marcos for 13 years and was currently an instructor of classical guitar at Baker University in Baldwin City.

Survivors include two children, Stephanie and David; his ex-wife, Silvia, all of Garden Ridge, Texas; his mother, Isabel, Topeka; two sisters, Lena Conrad, Olympia, Wash., and Ann Hotchkiss, Plano, Texas, and a brother, Richard Gangel, Stevensville, Mont.
