Albert William Eckman
ALBERT WILLIAM ECKMAN
Funeral services for Albert William Eckman, 85, Vinland, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Vinland United Methodist Church. Mr. Eckman died Jan. 20, 2007, at his home.
He was born Nov. 27, 1921, at Vinland, the son of Youdon and Jennie (Piper) Eckman. He graduated from Vinland High School in 1939. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942, serving in Seattle, Wash., and Juneau, Alaska, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He also served as administrative NCO and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Leta Mae Cox Sept. 27, 1948, in rural Lawrence. She died Sept. 23, 1990. He returned to the family farm in Vinland where he spent the rest of his life as a dairy farmer and member of Kansas Guernsey Breeds Association.
He helped remodel homes in the Vinland area, made cabinets and helped renovate Vinland United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Wanda Jean DuFrain, Bourbonnais, Ill.; one sister, Mabel Seele, Lawrence; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
His parents, wife, two sisters, Cora James and Esther McTaggert, and three brothers, Olaf, Youdon (Ed) and Robert, died earlier.
Burial will follow at Vinland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Vinland Cemetery and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
