House moving is cause for U.S. 56 delays Sunday

February 9, 2007

The disruption in traffic flow Sunday morning east of Baldwin City on U.S. Highway 56 is because of a house being moved from the Gardner area to land near the Battle of Black Jack site.

A flashing sign east of Baldwin City on U.S. 56 says to expect long delays in the next 10 miles from 6 a.m. to noon Sunday. Dan Yardley stopped by the Signal office Thursday afternoon to say it's the result of a house he purchased near Gardner that is being transported to land he purchased on 1900 Road.

Yardley said he has a foundation on the property and the house will be placed on it. The house is being moved from Gardner as a result of the Intermodal project there by the railroad, he said. The Intermodal is a massive warehouse site that will be used to transport goods from railroad cars to semi-tractor trailer trucks for further transportation. It is unknown when construction on the project will begin, but it is expected to create thousands of jobs in the area.
