- Sarah Bezek of Baldwin City will be featured in the Slaughter on Fifth Avenue Ballet as the Music Theatre for Young People presents Rodgers and Hart’s musical comedy “On Your Toes” at the Johnson County Community College Carlsen Center, Polsky Theatre, 12345 College Boulevard, Overland Park.

- Although we like winter weather as much as anyone, there’s always an exception. That’s the snow and ice on the roadways. We’re tired of it - already.
In the past three weeks, we’ve dealt with slick road conditions on three different occasions and, as of Wednesday afternoon, we were headed for a fourth. Again, we’re tired of it.

- Enough already! I can’t get Andy Williams singing “Happy Holiday” out of mind. I think I shall go crazy.
I like the song. It’s one of the Christmas classics to me. But, for whatever reason, it’s all I can seem to hear this year. That being said, I have had a happy holiday and I hope you have, too.

- Baldwin City residents can welcome new recreation director Steve Friend.
On Wednesday, he will take over as the new Baldwin City Recreation Department director. The announcement of Friend’s hiring came from the BCRC recently.

- Old Man Winter hasn’t given Douglas County road crews much of a break.
To combat the snow last weekend, the county had two 17-member crews using eight full-size dump trucks to spread sand and salt on the roads.
One crew worked 12 hours Saturday and seven hours Sunday, while the second crew worked 12 hours overnight Saturday. Normally on weekends, the county has a six-person crew on standby.

- Heather Garcia has had a phenomenal year : again.
During the past 12 months, the Baldwin High School junior captured four Class 4A state titles and set three school records.
