Police work variety of cases
Baldwin City police investigated several incidents during the past week, including two involving alcohol. One arrest was made and the other case is still under investigation.
Sunday at 1 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle that swerved left of center. The vehicle was stopped in the 200 block of High Street. The driver failed a field sobriety test and two breathalyzer tests. The 22-year-old Baldwin City man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and traffic violations and taken to Douglas County Jail.
Saturday at 2 a.m., police were called to the Salt Mine on U.S. Highway 56 for a reported fight. Someone had jumped a 22-year-old Baldwin City man in the parking lot and a 23-year-old Baldwin City man who tried to help the other. Those involved with the alleged assault left immediately and police are continuing the investigation.
Also on Sunday at 2 a.m., police responded to another reported fight in the 800 block of Eighth Street between two males. The fight was broken up and record checks were run on both. A 19-year-old Tonganoxie man was arrested on a failure to appear warrant out of Leavenworth County. He was taken to county jail.
On Aug. 18, police responded to a criminal damage to property report in the 400 block of Elkridge Court. A $600 door had been damaged. A 29-year-old Merriam man was cited for criminal damage to property.
