Investigation under way into alleged drug usage at BHS
The Baldwin City Police Department and Baldwin School District officials are investigating the alleged use of illegally obtained prescription drugs being used by members of the Baldwin High School football team.
That investigation is ongoing, according to Supt. Paul Dorathy, and no information will be released until it is completed.
"They are still in the investigative stage," said Dorathy. "We're leaving Chief (Mike) McKenna as lead spokesman. I do know the high school administration is involved with the investigation, too."
McKenna and the police department have been investigating the situation since Tuesday. He isn't prepared to release any details yet.
"We have an ongoing investigation," said McKenna. "It would be premature for me to comment. It's our policy not to comment on ongoing investigation. I can say it involves Baldwin High School students."
He said he hopes to finish the investigation next week.
"Hopefully, by the early part of next week," he said.
Dorathy said any information from the district will come through Bob Bezek, the district's attorney.
The Signal will update this story online as more information becomes available and stories and photos will be in next week's Signal.
