Bulldogs take eighth at BIT
On Saturday, the Baldwin High School varsity volleyball team hosted its annual Baldwin Invitational Tournament and it placed eighth out of 10 teams.
The Bulldogs began the day by losing to Osawatomie and Wellsville in straight games
"We had a very slow start," first-year coach Kelly Brown said. "After ropping two games to Oswatomie, we had a great match against Wellsville where we played very strong defense."
Then Baldwin came back and beat Perry-Lecompton 25-18, 25-17. BHS then lost to Hayden in two games.
In the consolation bracket, Baldwin fell to Mill Valley in two games, before taking Oskaloosa to three games. The Bulldogs led the Oskaloosa match late, but lost.
"We beat Perry-Lecompton, but after a long day and an early morning, we fell back into seventh place," Brown said.
The team felt they reached some good goals and set some new goals to accomplish.
"The BIT was fun and we found some more skills that we need to improve on," sophomore Haley Finucane said. "I think we will get a lot better."
Fellow sophomore Olivia Catloth agreed.
"The tournament went decent," Catloth said. "We played fairly well against some teams, but then we let up against others."
The Bulldog's next game is at 5:30 p.m. today at Saint James Academy. Paola, Bishop Ward and Saint James Academy will be the opponents.
