- Five years ago, on Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks changed the world — and Baldwin City — forever. Everyone will remember where they were when hijacked airplanes slammed into the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon and another plane intended to hit the Whitehouse was commandeered and crashed in Pennsylvania. Tom Mundinger, Baldwin Elementary School Intermediate Center principal, recalls it like it was yesterday. “That day is still very vivid in my memory,” said Mundinger. “I can remember being in the school office that morning at the start of school as word was coming in. We turned on the TV in the library and watched along with the rest of the country as the news was shown live over the news channels. “I can remember thinking after the first plane hit what a terrible accident,” he said.

- Just being a parent of children at Rainbow Experience Preschool wasn’t enough for Kisa Nichols; she wanted to be more involved. At the end of July, Nichols became the new director and teacher at the preschool.

- There were several items that were briefly discussed and approved in a quick manner at the Baldwin Board of Education meeting Monday night. The school board took action on student fees and a Baldwin High School band proposal, while tabling the board vision and code of ethics Monday.
- New rules in effect for Liston Stadium after agreement

- Baldwin High School home football games will have new rules, beginning Friday night. The Baldwin Board of Education approved the facility agreement with Baker University on Monday night. The vote was 5-0, with Board Members Scott Lauridsen and Lonnie Broers not present. The district will be able to use several Baker facilities. One of those is Liston Stadium, which now has an artificial turf surface and new eight-lane track.

- A shut out against rival Eudora helped keep the Baldwin High School soccer team undefeated this fall. The Bulldogs crushed the Cardinals 6-0 Monday to bring their record to 4-0 on the season. “It feels pretty good, because last year we lost our first game right off the start,” sophomore James Simmons said. “We didn’t have a chance to be undefeated at all.”
- Bulldogs ready for home opener

- PAOLA — It was dejvu for the Baldwin High School football team here Friday night. For the second straight week, the Bulldogs fell behind by 30 points before scoring touchdowns of their own. Baldwin (0-2) trailed Paola 31-0, but came back with two scoring drives before losing 39-14.

- Momentum can rapidly change in football and the Baker University Wildcats found that out first hand Saturday. Just when it looked like it was in charge of the game, the Wildcats were hit with a big play that set up the game-winning touchdown by Graceland University.

- Even though the weather did not cooperate for the Baldwin High School girls’ cross country team in Wamego, it did not damper their sprits Saturday.

- On Saturday, the Baldwin High School varsity volleyball team hosted its annual Baldwin Invitational Tournament and it placed eighth out of 10 teams.
- Girls’ tennis team playing well

- The Baldwin High School girls’ tennis teams are off to a good start. On Sept. 5, the varsity played at Spring Hill in a quad. Baldwin came in second behind De Soto with seven wins and five losses.
