October 5, 2006

This past week has been extremely productive for the Baldwin High School girls' tennis team.

The varsity competed in the Bonner Springs Invitational last Thursday and the Gardner-Edgerton Varsity Round Robin tournament Saturday.

At Bonner Springs, senior Mary Clippinger placed second in the singles division with three wins and two losses. Senior April Robbs also competed.

In doubles, seniors Emily Krysztof and Holly Ralston placed second with a 3-2 record, while sophomores Alyssa Peterson and Brianna Krysztof came in fourth with a 2-3 record.

In the junior varsity division Baldwin competed in the Lawrence City JV Tournament last Thursday and it competed against Marantha and Perry-Lecompton on Monday.

In the Lawrence City JV tournament, Baldwin placed seventh.

Sophomore Bailey Brown placed fifth and sophomore Regan Smith placed sixth in the singles division, each with 1-2 records.

In doubles, junior Katlyn Roberts and sophomore Laura Ferris earned a sixth-place finish. Also competing for BHS were junior Bridget Arthur, junior Sammy Bohmann, freshman Brittany Evilsizor and freshman Amanda Ciambrone.

The tennis team competed extremely well in the Maranatha and Perry-Lecompton duals.

"Overall, this group played some of the best tennis they have played all season," coach Ginny Honomichl said.

Against Maranatha, Baldwin finished 14-4 and 8-1 against Perry-Lecompton.

The varsity competes next at Class 4A Regionals at Andover High School today.
