Ives Chapel Day
Circle to meet
The Ives Chapel United Methodist Women Day Circle will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Joy Uthoff. Jeroldene Martin will lead the program.


Clearfield-Ives youth
schedule meeting
The Clearfield-Ives Chapel United Methodist Youth group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Clearfield UM Church. Youth sixth through 12th grades are invited.


Coal Creek Library
open for season
Coal Creek Library, Vinland, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays through October. The library can be opened by appointment by contacting Martha Smith, 594-3960.


Helping Hands to
distribute food
Helping Hands of Wellsville Family Worship Center will distribute food to anyone in need from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Emergency help is available. For information, call the church at (785) 883-2533.


Senior citizens plan
potluck and cards
Senior citizens are welcome to attend a potluck at 6 p.m. followed by card playing at 7 p.m. at the Senior Center the first and third Fridays of each month.


Vinland FCE to
gather for meeting
The Vinland Family Community Education unit will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Marian Bradley.
Paul Johnson will present the lesson, "Exploring Kansas History."


Garage sale forms
are at the library
Friends of the Library have made forms available for advertising citywide garage sales in the library directory. They may be picked up at the library and Baldwin City Market.
City Wide Garage Sales will be June 3. Forms must be returned by May 24.


Young At Heart
to meet for lunch
The Young At Heart group from Lighthouse Baptist Temple will meet at 12:30 p.m. May 18 at the church to travel to the Golden Corral at Olathe for lunch.


Lammers receives
Byrd scholarship
Lynne Lammers, Baldwin High School senior, has been selected to receive the 2006 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship.
Sixty Kansas students were chosen for the four-year scholarship and will receive $1,500 for the 2006-2007 academic year. The scholarship is designed to promote student excellence and achievement and to recognize exceptionally able students who show promise of continued excellence. Scholarships are awarded by congressional district.


ECKAN Agency
to distribute food
ECKAN will distribute food items to eligible Douglas County commodity participants from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 25 at the American Legion Hall.


African Violet Club
schedules meeting
The Lawrence African Violet Club will host its Annual Spring Violet and Plant Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Malls Shopping Center, 23rd and Louisiana streets in Lawrence.


Arts center offers
improv workshop
The Lumberyard Arts Center will offer a free improvisational workshop from noon to 3 p.m. June 1.
Annette Cook will conduct the workshop for girls in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. To reserve a space, call Linda Ballinger, 594-3194, or Sandy Cardens, 594-4261.


Vinland Valley 4-H
reports minutes
The Vinland Valley 4-H Club May meeting was called to order by Bailey Brown. Roll call was answered by a safety rule about a project.
Treasurer's report was presented by Paris Nottingham. Amanda Miller, historian, asked for pictures for the club scrapbook. Sandy Stone reported that fair entry forms must be returned to the extension office by June 30.
Dalton Vesecky and Casey George asked members to sign up for the club tour. Bromelsick Memorial ceremony will be May 27. Lacey Hunsinger and Amy Stone reported that the club was asked to make posters for the county fair.
Project talks were given by Melissa and Misty Emory, Jenny and Hannah Tuley, Mariah Schwager, Paris and Connor Nottingham. The June 5 meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Vinland Methodist Church.
