Superintendent search gets to contract stage

The Baldwin Board of Education met Monday night in executive session to discuss the contract for its candidate to replace Supt. James White, who will be retiring in July. The meeting was called Monday morning. School Board President Lonnie Broers said the board worked on putting together a contract at Monday’s meeting.
Firefighting fixes falling into place

Baldwin City Council members have made it clear they want answers regarding fire protection in the city. The council’s concerns are in the wake of the Feb. 13 fire that destroyed the home of Bill and Jane Stotts at 818 Indiana. While there were other problems associated with controlling the fire, a hydrant in the corner of the home’s lot failed, causing fire fighters to bring hoses from other nearby hydrants.
BJHS annual auction draws large crowd, record dollars

With more than 180 baskets for sale, the Baldwin Junior High School’s annual basket auction fundraiser brought in around $4,200 on the night of March 15. “I think it was a great success,” said Laura McCall, BJHS social worker and student council advisor. “It was bigger than I expected. People came out for a variety of reasons. I didn’t care if they bought anything, but it’s a social event.”

Once again, I have put my foot in my mouth when it comes to predicting the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. After the University of Kansas’ first-round exit from the tournament, I have come to the conclusion that I am a Jayhawk jinx.

Pitching depth to aid Bulldogs

A strong pitching rotation and depth at every position may make the Baldwin High School softball squad a team to reckon with in the Frontier League this season. “We’ve got some depth at positions now, which we haven’t had before,” coach Ginny Honomichl said. “It’s very exciting.”
