MARJORIE M. COOPER
Memorial services for Marjorie M. (Ricketts) Cooper, 92, Baldwin City, will be at 10 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City. Inurnment will follow at Paola Cemetery, Paola. Mrs. Cooper died March 5, 2006, at Baldwin Care Center, Baldwin City.
She was born Jan. 1, 1914, at Paola, the daughter of Cyrus Wilson and Myrtle Irene (Arnold) Ricketts. She graduated from Paola High School in 1932 and from Baker University with a bachelor's degree in English. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. She earned a master's degree in English Theatre at the University of Wisconsin.
She married Major Gail Young in 1942. He died in an airplane crash while serving his country in 1952. She married Willard E. Cooper in 1955 at Paola. He died Jan. 28, 1974.
Mrs. Cooper taught at Vinland Elementary and Vinland High schools. She worked for Western Auto and the Davis Paint Store for many years in Paola. She worked at the Paola Lumberyard, retired at the age of 74 and moved to Baldwin.
She attended the Baldwin First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Arnold Young, Kansas City, Kan., and Eric Young and his wife Claudia, Augsburg, Germany; four grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Cyrus Eugene Ricketts, and a sister, Lois Ricketts (Aiello).
