HELEN E. SCHWALM

Funeral services for Helen E. (Sutton) Schwalm, 92, Baldwin City, were Wednesday at Ives Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Schwalm died March 11, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence.

She was born June 12, 1913, in rural Douglas County, the daughter of Benjamin F. and Iva A. (Clary) Sutton. She attended Union Grade School. As a teen she worked for several area farm families including Dr. James Naismith's family in Lawrence.

She married Charles Lester Schwalm March 24, 1937, at Newton. He died Jan. 30, 1993. She worked as a cook at the University of Kansas. They farmed until moving to Baldwin City in 1982.

She was a member of the Worden United Methodist Church in her early years and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Ives Chapel United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She attended the Tat-N-Chat social club.

Survivors include her daughter, Margie M. Adcock, Baldwin City; two grandchildren, Cynthia Adcock O'Bryhim, Baldwin City, and Charles Adcock, Monroe, Ga., and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Harry Sutton, and three sisters, Mary Pippert, Eva Hardtarfer, Veda Barnhart.

Burial was at Sutton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Ives Chapel United Methodist Church or Sutton Cemetery and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
