Signal wins press association awards
The Baldwin City Signal won numerous awards in the annual Kansas Press Association's Awards of Excellence contest.
Jeff Myrick, Signal editor and publisher, won first place in the editorial writing catagory for three editorials regarding problems in the Baldwin School District. Myrick also won second place in the news photo catagory for the picture of the crane toppling over in FireTree Estates and for headline writing. The Signal also was second in best newspaper Web site.
The Signal was third place in design and layout excellence and Myrick was third in column writing. He also had an honorable mention selection in the feature package catagory for a story and photos about Martha Smith turning 100 years old.
Staff writer Jimmy Gillispie won his first KPA award with an honorable mention selection in the sports pages catagory.
Awards will be presented at the KPA annual convention April 22 in Wichita.
