TALK series to have
third discussion
The Friends of the Baldwin Library will host the third of a three-part series of Talk About Literature in Kansas discussions. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at the library.
Tom Prasch, professor at Washburn University will lead the discussion of "The Joy Luck Club" by Amy Tan. Books are available at the library. For information, call 594-3411.

World Day of
Prayer set
The World Day of Prayer will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Baldwin First United Methodist Church. The program will be "Signs of the Times." Community members are welcome to attend.

Annunciation to
sponsor fish fry
The Knights of Columbus of Annunciation Catholic Church will have a fish fry from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
There will be fried catfish, curly fries, rolls and dessert. Adults are $6 and children under 12 are $3.

Free food available
at Helping Hands
Wellsville Family Worship Center will distribute food from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday to those in need. Emergency help is also available. Call (785) 883-2533 for more information.

Ives Evening Circle
to have meeting
The Evening Circle of Ives Chapel United Methodist Church will meet at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in Fellowship Hall. Rev. Priscilla Davies will present the program and Suzanne Hoge will serve as hostess.

Virtual students
receive awards
Radie Keller, 10, Aubrey Rinehart, 11, and Rhett Rinehart, 7, Baldwin City, representing Lawrence Virtual School, received awards at the Douglas County Science Fair Feb. 10. Keller won honorable mention and awards for Best Display and Best Use of Computers for her fifth-grade life sciences project, "Dog Food: Comparing Nutrition, Taste and Cost." Aubrey Rinehart, fifth grade, won Best Engineering Project and a judges' special award for her physical science project, "Dome Homes vs. Hurricane Hullaballoo." Rhett Rinehart, second grade, won second place in second-third grade physical science for his project, "Paper Maker: Experiments in Recycling."

Becky Weaver named
to Dean's List
Rebecca Weaver, from Baldwin City, has been named to the Simpson College Dean's List for the fall 2005 semester. Weaver is a sophomore majoring in Art and Marketing. To be included in the dean's list, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale.
