Parents as Teachers
provides inspection
Baldwin Parents as Teachers is providing child car seat inspections and seat distribution from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the USD 348 Bus Barn, 416 Quayle.
Inspections will be performed by technicians certified by the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration. A new law taking effect July 1 requires children ages 4, 5, 6 and 7 who either weigh less than 80 pounds or are shorter than 4-foot-9 be placed in appropriate child passenger restraints.
The free event is sponsored by SafeKids Douglas County. Car seats will be available for purchase. Lunch provided from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.


AARP schedules
meeting in Lawrence
American Association of Retired People will meet at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lawrence Country Club. Speakers will be Jerry Waugh and Heather Ackerly from Lawrence Memorial Hospital. For reservations, call (785) 842-0446.


Music on the Lawn
set at Vinland
Vinland United Methodist Church will host Music on the Lawn beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Hotdogs and beverages provided. The freewill offering goes to church maintenance and repairs.


Lighthouse Temple
hosts dinner
Lighthouse Baptist Temple has a dinner the last Sunday of each month following Sunday worship services. Everyone is welcome.


Clearfield -- Ives youth
schedule meeting
The Clearfield -- Ives Chapel United Methodist Youth group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Ives Chapel UM Church. Youth 6th through 12th grades are invited.


Coal Creek Library
open for season
Coal Creek Library, Vinland, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays through October. The library can be open by appointment by contacting Martha Smith, 594-3960.

sets summer hours
The Baldwin City Public Library has announced its summer hours: Monday 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Tuesday 9 a.m.-5 p.m..; Wednesday 9-9; Thursday 9-5; Friday 9-5; Saturday 9 a.m.-noon. The library can be contacted at 594-3411.


Senior citizens plan
Vermont tour
Senior Services of Douglas County is planning a trip Sept. 22 through Oct. 1 to Vermont. Ages 18 and older are welcome. Sign up must be before July 18. For more information, call Jessie Kwatamdia at (785) 842-0543.


S.H.A.F.F. 4-H
Club has meeting
The S.H.A.F.F. 4-H Club was called to order by Daniel Reese. Minutes were read and approved. A letter was received from 4-H in Kansas that anyone wishing to donate to the fundraiser $100 for 100 years should do so soon.
The treasurer's report and reporter's report were given. Denise Lowe spoke on community involvement and the fair. Chris Kerr announced a foods project meeting. Dean Kerr announced a rocketry meeting. Barb Jones said Central Fiber was willing to give the club an educational tour.
Austin and Michael Kunard, Garland Miller, Elizabeth Reese, Grant Miller and Daniel Reece gave talks. The July meeting will be the club tour. The shooting sports club meeting will be July 29. The meeting was adjourned.
