Art Walk to return on Friday
Art Walk will make its return Friday with the tried-and-true ice cream social and performance by the community band in addition to artists on display.
The Baldwin Community Arts Council has featured Art Walks every third Friday of the summer for years. However, the June Art Walk was canceled in anticipation of construction downtown for the streetscape project.
However, the project was delayed a year and the BCAC decided to bring the July Art Walk, always one of the favorites, back.
"The Baldwin Community Arts Council is happy to be presenting a July Art Walk," said Kathy Dorsey, BCAC president. "After taking a month off, we're welcoming artists and arts fans back.
"We'll also be doing that with the annual ice cream social and community band performance, which is always one of the favorite Art Walks of all," said Dorsey.
Art Walk will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in downtown Baldwin City. The ice cream will be served between the post office and the lumberyard. That's also where the community band, led by Will Cooper, will perform beginning around 7 p.m.
This year's event will also have some new items and a lot of artists showing their wares.
"Numerous artists plan to attend with a variety of offerings, including pottery, jewelry, paintings, etc." she said. "The Lumberyard Arts Center board has graciously allowed us to use the lumberyard driveway to set up some of the art.
"The Art Affair sponsored by Baker University will also be open that evening," said Dorsey. "
As for the band performance, she is suggesting comfort items.
"Please bring a lawn chair or blanket, if you wish," said Dorsey.
There will also be money to be won by both artists and participants.
"There will be a patron drawing for $50 worth of any art the winner wishes to purchase from the artists that are present," she said. "That drawing will be at 8:30 p.m. Patrons also get to vote for their 'favorite' artist and the artist with the most votes receives a $50 award."
The BCAC also plans to have another of its favored Art Walks back in September. The annual Cuppa Java event will be Sept. 15.
