Fourth of July celebration returns to ball fields
Now that the Fourth of July celebration has returned to Baldwin City this year, the Citizens For Baldwin City have learned that the fireworks display will be able to be in its usual location near the ball fields.
The decision to bring the firework show back this year was made on Thursday, after an article was printed in the Signal saying the show was canceled this year because of a lack of volunteers.
Donna Kneedler, president of the Citizens For Baldwin City, called the Signal Thursday afternoon to say the annual celebration will be happening after all. She said this week's story in the Signal helped promote enough interest to bring fireworks to Baldwin Tuesday.
"I have had phone call after phone call today from people telling me they were sad that we weren't having a show this year, but they wondered how they could help bring it back," Kneedler said. "I have received a couple large donations today and also talked to Jeff Dingman (city administrator)."
Kneedler said she has planned some entertainment for the event. There will be a disc jockey and a live band playing Tuesday evening. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and the firework show will start at 10 p.m. It will once again take place north of Baldwin High School, near the ball fields.
The Signal will update the story as more information becomes available.
