Lighthouse men to
have breakfast
The men at Lighthouse Baptist Temple will serve breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. All community men are welcome to attend.

Ray Jones to
celebrate 80th
An open house to celebrate the 80th birthday of Ray Jones, D.O., Baldwin City, will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Baldwin City Gospel Chapel, Third and Chapel streets. Community members are welcome to attend.

Lighthouse youth
to attend rally
The youth at Lighthouse Baptist Temple will attend a youth rally at Bonner Springs Friday. The bus will leave the church at 5:30 p.m. Area youth are welcome to attend.

Helping Hands
to distribute food
Wellsville Family Worship Center is offering Helping Hands, a free monthly food distribution, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday morning at the church. Call (785) 883-2533 for information.

Vinland FCE to
have meeting
The Vinland FCE will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Elizabeth Hemphill. The lesson, "My Pyramid -- Steps to a Healthier You," will be given by Elizabeth Hemphill.

First Methodist UMW
to have meeting
The United Methodist Women of the Baldwin First United Methodist Church will meet at noon Wednesday in Fellowship Hall. Dorcas circle is hostess. The program will be Call to Prayer and Self Denial.

Senator to speak at
Baker Convocation
Senator Pat Roberts will speak at Baker University's Founders Day Convocation at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Rice Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Quilters Guild
schedules meeting
The Maple Leaf Quilters Guild of Baldwin City will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Baldwin City Public Library. Dora Davis will present the program, Iris Folding.
Kits will be available and everyone should bring scissors. Visitors are welcome to attend.

Lighthouse ladies
to have Bible study
The ladies of Lighthouse Baptist Temple will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday for Bible study. Community women are welcome to attend.

Ives Chapel circle
sponsors cook-off
The Evening Circle of Ives Chapel United Methodist Church is sponsoring a Chili and Dessert Cook-off from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Participants should prepare their best chili and/or dessert and bring it to the church. Everyone attending will be a judge. A free-will donation will be accepted. Prizes will be awarded.

Pittenger graduates
from PSU
Jake Pittenger, a 2000 graduate of Baldwin High School, graduated from Pittsburg State University Dec. 16, 2005, with a degree in Construction Management Technology.
He is employed at Key Construction, Wichita. Pittenger is the son of Knute and Diane Pittenger, Baldwin City.

ECKAN Agency to
distribute food
The ECKAN Agency will distribute food items to eligible Douglas County commodity participants from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the American Legion Hall in Baldwin City. ECKAN will not have another distribution until May because of reduced deliveries.

Christmas child
is area project
Members of the Worden United Methodist Church have been involved with "Operation Christmas Child" since 1999. They would like to share their experiences with the community and get more groups involved with the project as they prepare for Operation Christmas Child 2006.
Operation Christmas Child is a part of Samaritan's Purse, a mission organization led by Franklin Graham. Shoeboxes are filled with items needed by children and where it is allowed, the boxes also contain Christian literature in the child's language.

Young at Heart to
travel for lunch
The Young at Heart group at Lighthouse Baptist Temple will travel to Olathe today to have lunch at Jose Pepper's. They will leave the church at 12:30 p.m. Community members are welcome to attend.

Warm Home Kits
now available
Warm Home Kits that are provided by Douglas County to households who meet income guidelines are now available at Baldwin City Hall.
The kit contains caulk, weather stripping, energy saving light bulbs, showerhead, tape and aerator to help save on utility bills. Landlords can inquire about the kits also. City hall is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call 594-6427 and ask for utility billing.

Volunteer firemen
are needed
Volunteer firemen for the Baldwin City Fire Department are needed. Anyone interested and over 18 years of age is asked to apply at Baldwin City Hall. Training will be provided.
