Charlene E. Pohl

Funeral services for Charlene E. (Elm) Pohl, 84, Worden, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Old Worden United Methodist Church, Worden. Burial will follow services at Worden Cemetery. Mrs. Pohl died Aug. 1, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.

She was born Feb. 4, 1922, in rural Douglas County, the daughter of Charley and Gladys M. (Flora) Elm. She attended Range Line Elementary School and Appanoose High School. She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1939 and attended Ottawa University.

She married Orvil L. Pohl Feb. 6, 1941, at the home of her parents near Worden. He died March 20, 1996.

Mrs. Pohl was a lifelong member of Worden United Methodist Church. She served on the Douglas County Extension Council and the Executive Board, the 4-H Fair Advisory Council and Worden Workers 4-H Club. She volunteered for the Auxiliary of Lawrence Memorial Hospital for 15 years.

She worked as a clerk at the Baldwin City Post Office for 20 years, retiring in 1988.

Survivors include one daughter, Renita Ubel, Ottawa; one son, Wendell, Baldwin City; three granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two great-grandsons.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the new Worden United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association or the Heifer Project International and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
