Baldwin Junction deadly again

Rural Baldwin City woman Charlene E. Pohl, 84, became the latest victim Tuesday in a string of fatal and near fatal accidents at the Baldwin Junction. Pohl was westbound on U.S. Highway 56 when she pulled out from the stop sign at the intersection and was struck by a tractor-trailer truck that was northbound on U.S. Highway 59, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The accident happened shortly after noon Tuesday. Pohl was taken by helicopter ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., where she later died from her injuries.
Hog ball’ closes out BHS camp

For the final day of camp, Baldwin High School football coach Mike Berg kicked back and let his players enjoy some fun and games. The final hour of the week-long camp was spent playing “hog ball,” which is a free-for-all football type game. The reason for the game is simple, according to Berg. “That’s kind of a tradition,” Berg said.
Bulldogs witness improvements

What a difference one year can make. It has for the Baldwin High School soccer team, whose summer camp saw nearly double the numbers it did a year ago. The Bulldogs finished their camp Friday morning and assistant coach Matt McCune was impressed with the players’ improvement in one year.
