KPA awards Signal
The Baldwin City Signal won eight awards at Saturday's Kansas Press Association Awards of Excellence presentation in Wichita.
Editor/publisher Jeff Myrick won first place in the Editorial Writing category for a series of editorials concerning the Baldwin School District. Myrick finished second in the News Photo competition with the picture of the boom crane that toppled backward in FireTree Estates in October. He was also second in the Headline Writing category and the Signal's Web site, www.baldwincity.com, finished second.
Myick was also third in Column Writing and the Signal was third in Design and Layout Excellence. Rounding out the awards were a pair of honorable mention finishes. Myrick received one for Feature Package on Martha Smith turning 100 years old. Signal Staff Writer Jimmy Gillispie gained his first-ever KPA award with an honorable mention finish in Sports Pages.
