- Doggone it, get your animals tagged, the Baldwin City Council says.
At Monday’s meeting, the council discussed concerns raised by citizens regarding animals at large. Council Member Tony Brown brought the matter up and wanted clarification that the police department does enforce city regulations.

- There will be a new route for the Maple Leaf Festival parade this year, but it’s not the first time its been changed and it’s unknown if it will return to normal for the 50th anniversary in 2007.

- Although the Baldwin City Council took action on the downtown streetscape project at Monday’s meeting, it’s still nowhere close to starting and has left many people in limbo.

- Sparked by two home runs in the first game, the Baldwin High School baseball team took its first doubleheader sweep of the season at home Tuesday night.
BHS seniors Matt Kretzschmer and Troy Gilges helped lift Baldwin to 7-3 and 7-4 victories over Anderson County.

- After two low-scoring losses to Paola last week, the Baldwin High School softball team got its bats going against Anderson County Tuesday.
Baldwin swept Anderson County in a doubleheader at home. Both games ended with the run rule in six innings.

- After a third place finish at the KT Woodman Invitational, the Baldwin High School girls track team came back to win the Santa Fe Trail Fischer Invitational Tuesday.
The Bulldogs scored 194 points, which blew away second-place St. Thomas Aquinas, which scored 133. The Bulldogs also won 33 medals at the meet.

- With the sun shining down and children roaming everywhere, Rainbow Experience Preschool and MidAmerica Bank helped Baldwin City celebrate another Easter.
The annual Easter Egg Hunt and other festivities took place Saturday morning on Baker University’s campus.
“It was very successful,” REP Director Dana Hart said. “We had a very large crowd, which was possible because of the weather. It was well organized and we were really happy with the turnout on our basket auction.”

- Funeral services for Jeff Morgan, the 23-year-old Baker University student killed last week by a train near Edgerton, were Tuesday in Emporia. Baker had a memorial service for him on Easter Sunday.

- After listening to concerns raised by the Baldwin City Planning Commission and making a tweak that was suggested, the Baldwin City Council adopted an ordinance amending zoning regulations to allow conditional use permits at its Monday meeting.

- Many Baldwin High School boys’ track members were able to slightly rest at their meet on Tuesday, after winning the KT Woodman Invitational Friday, in preparation for the Kansas Relays.
On Friday the Bulldogs traveled to Wichita to compete at KT Woodman and blew away the competition. Baldwin scored 92 points, which was 38 higher than the four second-place teams that tied at 54. A total of 29 teams competed at the meet.

- University of Arkansas senior Eric Brown will be returning home for his favorite track meet Friday.
Brown, a 2002 Baldwin High School graduate, will be the lone Razorback competing at the Kansas Relays. Brown will be throwing the javelin at 5 p.m. Friday.

- Baldwin City police have investigated a series of burglaries and thefts in the past week. Many of the thefts were out of open and unlocked garages and that has brought a warning.
