Katrina efforts continue
The first-ever meeting of the Baldwin City Hurricane Relief Fund board of directors was Tuesday night. It is still unknown if a family or familes displaced by the hurricane will come to Baldwin.
The relief foundation was established after a pair of community meetings. A goal to raise $15,000 was also established.
Baker University and the Baldwin School District have ongoing efforts underway, as well. Annunciation Catholic Church held a benefit dinner Wednesday night.
The relief fund raised $1,005 $1,005 in its first fund-raising effort, a three-hour stint with a boot drop at the intersection of Sixth and Ames streets where motorists were asked to contribute spare change and cash. Other efforts are planned.
Updates on the effort will be available on the Signal's Web site at baldwincity.com. Stories will be in next week's issue on the efforts, too.
