Bullying expert addresses many district patrons

Every student in the Baldwin School District and several parents learned ways to deal with bullying as Joe Coles, student service coordinator, came and spoke last week around the district.

Weather helps draw huge crowd to festival again

There was gorgeous weather for the 48th Annual Maple Leaf Festival which once again brought thousands to Baldwin City — even if the famed maple leaves didn’t cooperate. “I think attendance was about normal,” said Baldwin Fire Chief Allen Craig. “But, that’s just judging from the parade crowd. What I’m hearing from the county guys (Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies) is the traffic is up. There were more people coming in. So, maybe there were more people. “It’s just a gorgeous day,” Craig said Saturday. “That always helps.”

Activities are designed for children of all ages

Each year the Maple Leaf Festival tries to include more activities and ways for children to have fun amongst all of the arts and crafts, and this year was definitely no exception.

It’s Terror Tracks time again. The Baldwin City Community Theatre will again have the Halloween special on board the Midland Railway Friday, Saturday, Oct. 28 and Oct. 29.

The streak began a decade ago when the Baldwin High School boys cross country team won the Frontier League title in 1995, and every year since then the outcome has been the same.
BHS seniors end career with fourth-place finish

After four years of perfecting serves, practicing strokes and having fun, Baldwin High School seniors Katie Beall and Kristen Ferris proved to be fighters when they ended their BHS tennis careers victoriously at the Class 4A State Tennis Tournament Saturday.
