Vacating streets draws ire again

Baldwin City Council members took another look at Baker University’s request that two streets near the Charlie Richard Sports Complex be vacated during Monday’s meeting, but that look was cloudy.
Utility problems are minor

Two normally major problems with Baldwin City utilities were resolved quickly Monday and Tuesday, leaving many residents unaware they even occurred. A power outage Monday involved only one of the feeds that provides power to Baldwin and it involved only the downtown area. Power was out for an hour and a half. Then, on Tuesday, news spread that the city’s water supply, which travels under the Baker Wetlands from Lawrence, had once again sprung a leak. In the past, it’s taken days to fix. Tuesday the break was fixed within hours.

The cinderella story for the Baldwin High School girls basketball team ended Saturday night in a 57-29 loss to Iola in the sub-state championship, after it beat Spring Hill the night before to qualify for the finals.
