MARY ZOE LAUGHLIN

Funeral services for Mary Zoe Laughlin, 83, Baldwin City, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Lawrence. Mrs. Laughlin died June 11, 2005, at Cornerstone Hospital, Austin, Texas.

She was born April 30, 1922, at Wichita, the daughter of Sidney and Maudeline (McCutcheon) Stahl. She graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in home economics and food management. She worked as a registered dietician at the University of Kansas and also farmed with her husband. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Pharmacist Mate. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Lawrence.

She married John F. Laughlin Jr. Dec. 15, 1950, at Topeka. He died Feb. 13, 1989.

Survivors include two daughters, Tina Gorup, Temple, Texas, and Melissa Dardis, Phoenix, Ariz.; one grandson, one brother, Sidney Stahl, Wichita; one sister, Elfa Joy Vess, Pinchust, N.C.

Burial will be at Eudora City Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Navy and the American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. CLARICE E. NEWELL

Funeral services for Clarice E. Newell, 81, Baldwin City, were Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Mrs. Newell died June 10, 2005, at Baldwin Care Center, Baldwin City.

She was born May 5, 1924, at DeSoto, the daughter of George Benjamin and Rose May (Reynolds) Deay. She attended DeSoto schools. She was a member of Vinland Church of Christ.

She married Harry V. Newell Feb. 15, 1941, at DeSoto. He died April 8, 1995.

She was preceded in death by a son, Vernon E. Newell, and a daughter, Elizabeth V. Newell.

Survivors include three sons, Jim Newell, Tim Newell and Virgil Newell, all of Baldwin City, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
