Tragedy strikes at home

A tragic car accident on the afternoon of May 25 changed the Schmitz family forever, when 45-year-old Baldwin City resident Elaine Schmitz was killed at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and County Road 460.

A semester in England gave Baldwin High School alumnae Kyrstan Hubbel and Becky Weaver a chance to see different cultures along with foreign views of the United States. Hubbel and Weaver returned to the U.S. with other Baker University students in early May. They both said they were glad to be back home again. “I was glad to get off the plane and see my family again,” Weaver said.
Gratts receives Eagle Scout honor

Daren Gratts, 18, son of Dexter and Donna Gratts, Baldwin City, received the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouting, during an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony on May 24, at the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin.

BHS golf team finishes ninth at state

After winning regionals, the Baldwin High School golf team finished its season with a ninth-place finish at the state golf tournament in Coffeyville on May 23.
