ROBERT DALE NORTON
Funeral services for Robert Dale Norton, 76, Baldwin City, were Tuesday at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Baldwin City. Mr. Norton died January 1, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence.
He was born March 19, 1928, at Cainsville, Mo., the son of Carl and Blanch (Smothers) Norton. He graduated from Spickard High School in 1947.
He married Colleen Davis in 1949.
From 1950 to 1959, he served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Marines at China Lake, Calif., as a Military Guard. He qualified as a sharp shooter and also received the National Defense Service Medal.
He married Cheryl Wright in 1977. They have lived in the Baldwin City area for the last 10 years. They are members of the Lighthouse Baptist Church. They lived on a dairy farm in rural Paola for several years. He was a locksmith by trade and retired from Kansas University as the campus locksmith.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Cathy Strehlow and her husband, Mark, Overland Park; two stepdaughters, Wendy Cherry and her husband, Steve, Baldwin City, and Terrie Dalrymple and her husband, Randy, Overland Park; one son, Kenneth Norton, Topeka; two stepsons, Randy Wright and his wife, Wilma, Bonner Springs, and Roger Wright and his wife, Glenda, Paola, and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jack Norton, two brothers, Lawrence Norton and Jim Norton, and a grandson, Kyle Hale.
Burial was at Osawatomie Cemetery, Osawatomie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church Building Fund and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.

ELMER HAROLD SMITH
Funeral services for Elmer Harold Smith, 98, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Amos Family Chapel of Lenexa, 10113 Lenexa Dr., Lenexa. Mr. Smith died January 2, 2005, at Lakeview Village, Lenexa.
He was born in Cottonwood Falls. He was an Agricultural Engineer for KCPL. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elnora Smith.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith S. Lister and her husband, Gordon, and a son, Harold L. Smith, Denver Colo., a half sister, Ethel, and two grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister-in-law, Martha Smith, Baldwin City.
Burial will be at Vinland Cemetery, Vinland. Contributions may be made to the church or charity of choice. Arrangements were handled by Amos Family Chapel of Lenexa.
